While driving to work the other morning, I started thinking about dreams. God has spoken to me in dreams my entire life, sometimes others remind me of dreams I had of my dad when I was a child...dreams I'll never remember. I found it quite funny when I got married to my husband b/c we've known one another since we were teenagers, best friends actually. But, there was one thing he didn't know about me...I'm a dreamer. So, when I would wake up in the morning to call my mom and tell her what I dreamed, he thought I (we) were crazy! He said "well, I don't dream." It took maybe a month after we got married and sure enough, God the "dream giver" came to visit him.
Back when Michael Jordan was "King of the NBA" and heart-throb of all young girls, my sister Christie begin to dream dreams about him, she was about 9. She loved Michael Jordan....I mean who didn't?! She would dream that Michael Jordan came to our school. She would wake up and tell us all, "I dreamed that Michael Jordan came to my school!" Now, you may think there's nothing wrong with that, but you would have to know where we lived, and where we went to school! We grew up in Cedar Lane, Tx...where your neighbor is your grandparents and uncle, hence the name Cedar Lane, ok! We went to school in Van Vleck, Tx....one stop light. BUT home of the mighty fighting Leopards!! Ok back to the dreams! She dreamed this for a while and she told it "I dreamed Michael Jordan came to my school." And none of us really said anything...she's just dreaming, right?!
Well Ecclesiastes 9:11 tells us that "time and chance happens to them all." Chance had it that my older sister Meme was in a relationship with a young man (who was from Van Vleck). This young mans brother played for the NFL and each year in February he would have a Black History basketball tournament as a way to give back to his community. BUT, one year he decided to make a change, use his "celebrity status" and call in a friend...hmmmm. Yep, you guessed it right. Michael Jordan. Time was happening to her and chance brought it together, she was now 18. They knew how "crazy" she was about him and so, as we sat watching "the master of the NBA" work his magic, they came to get her. "Christie, he's calling for you." I look at her...she's sitting there crying, in SHOCK!?! Here's her dream unfolding...and she's in shock, stuck in her seat...she didn't move. My thought at the time...I bet he won't call my name! But, it wasn't for me...it was for her. What God has for you...is for you, literally! And so, dream deferred....but was it denied?
Just as all daddy's love their children (especially the little girls), our daddy God wanted to show her his love for her, even in the "little things." He wanted to give her the desire of her heart as a teenager...proving to her that even in this "light" thing, I'll bring what you thought was impossible to pass. And so time passed for her, she thought it was over. But, daddy moved once again. You know daddy's will do what they have to do for their daughters! Remember "time and chance happens to them all." My mom received a call, they wanted to surprise her for her birthday, she was 21! This time she was flown to a bigger function and not only was she able to meet Michael Jordan, but she met Charles Barkley, and Avery Johnson. And this was not for one day, but an entire week. She was able to sit and talk with Michael Jordan this time on a private jet, he autographed things for her, encouraged her to do good in life....no more dreaming, it's reality now! And I must add, she didn't have to do anything "out of character" to get or remain there...just be her daddy's girl, and that's exactly what she did.
God is the dream giver. Christie didn't just decide in her nine year old mind, "you know, I think I'm gonna go to bed tonight and dream that Michael Jordan is coming to my school." No, God gave that...she believed him and then received the blessings. And just as she went into "shock" at the first meeting and missed her opportunity, we all do sometimes. But, God brought it right back to her...and this time she seized the moment and received a greater blessing.
Don't give up on your dreams. I'm sure Joseph would've never seen himself in the palace while in the pit or the prison, but he continued to be faithful to his God. Why, b/c God showed him something as a child and he believed God to be faithful and true. You say well, I don't have dreams...that's ok. Because there's something called visions. In Habakkuk 2:2 He told us to "write the vision and make it plain." If you have a vision for your life, write it down...and watch God work with you. You may say well, I don't have dreams or a vision...that's ok too, but I'm sure you have a desire, right?! Psalms 37:4 tells us to "delight thyself in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." So there, all bases are covered for you! Our daddy is not a man that He should lie. He isn't one to say "I'll call you later" and never call. Or "I'm coming by to pick you up" and never show. "I'm gonna bring you a gift" and never follow through. No, "the promises of God are yea and amen" according to 2 Corinthians 1:20.
I encourage you to pursue your DVD's...Dreams, Visions, and Desires and live them out loud in HD. Our daddy has not only given us the answers, He IS the answer. If you don't believe me, ask Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph....and for an even closer reference, ask my sister Christie!
