When my oldest daughter Chyna was between the ages of 4-6, she begin asking her "mommy why/when" questions. She wanted to know why we didn't have a truck (we had a car)...she wanted a truck. She wanted to know why we didn't have a house...we lived in an apartment. And the #1 question that I got for several years "mommy why doesn't it snow where we live?!" So, I said to her about the truck and house "Chyna, why don't you ask Jesus if we can have a truck and a house." (I got tired of her asking). So, she stopped what she was doing and in her childlike mind and voice said "Jesus, can we have a truck? Jesus, can we have a house?" She waited and then said "MOMMY, HE SAID YES!" She said it with a big smile...and great confidence. But, I thought nothing of it.
In time the truck and house came...just as she said He told her it would, but I still thought nothing of it. Well, she begin asking about snow more and more. And I continued to explain to her "baby, where we live...it just doesn't snow!" So, like the truck and house I wanted her off my back...I threw it on Jesus (I know..bad mom)! I said "Chyna, if you want snow you've got to ask God for it." So this time, she ran to her room and asked God for snow. Just as the truck and house, she received the same reply and reported to me with a huge smile "MOMMY, HE SAID YES!" Funny thing was...she never doubted. She took His "yes" and went on with her life. She was about 5 years old when she prayed for snow.
After she received her yes from God, she never questioned me about snow again. But, each year at Christmas time she watched and would say "it's going to snow." Three years went by after "he said yes" and Chyna finally received snow. I couldn't believe it. She was eight. We were riding one day and as we looked out the window, it hit me God had proven himself to my eight year old...through snow! I looked at her and I said "Chyna, do you remember praying for snow when you were younger?" And she did. I asked her if she remembered Him telling her "yes" and she did. And then it hit her "OMG, I got my snow!" Each year after that for about three years she would begin to pray starting around the month of September for her snow...and she got it. It got to the point that my mother begin telling her "Chyna, granny is gonna have to pray and ask God to stop this snow!" And she would be so confident in her reply "NO granny, it's gonna snow!" And when it did, she would call my mother laughing because she got what she asked for. Isn't that just like a father...to give his children what they desire. It's what we call "the simple things in life." But, Psalms 37:4 tells us "delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." Snow, was Chyna's desire...and He gave it, because she believed Him the first time when He said "yes."
What's my point? Jesus told us in Matthew 7 to simply ask, seek, and knock. He said "for everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." You see it doesn't take a prophet to prophesy something to you, or a preacher to give you a preached word over the pulpit to receive a word from God. Don't misunderstand me, we do need prophesy and preaching. BUT, sometimes your right now word from God, that answer you need from Him is right in the very Bible you walk by on a daily basis! And the truth of the matter is that He's already said YES! Romans 10:17 tells us that "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD of God." John 1:1 lets us know "in the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God." This WORD is none other than Jesus himself! And if faith comes by hearing the WORD...it's means we must hear Jesus!
"How do I hear him?!" Well, if He doesn't speak to you personally, I challenge you to #1 build a relationship with him as your personal savior. Because His sheep know His voice. And then go to the scripture and start speaking out loud what He said...remember faith comes by hearing! Everything you see around you is a product of what you or someone else have spoken into existence, if you don't like it...stop speaking it, and don't allow others to do it either! Tell your situation what Jesus said, instead of what the doctors, lawyers, naysayers...even yourself has said. Will it change immediately..maybe, maybe not. But, if it doesn't...keep speaking what He said.
Because He's already told you YES! Matthew 7:7-12
